LDS Tourism Services joins FTA

Last month LDS Tourism Services joined the Flintshire Tourism Association (FTA), an independent group of tourism operators with strong links to Flintshire County Council. The chief aim of the Association is to enhance the profile and importance of the County’s tourist industry by organizing events, publishing promotional literature and interacting on social media networks such as Facebook.

The FTA currently has a number of exciting projects in the pipeline, such as creating a 32 page newspaper called Discover Flintshire - which will be distributed to 30,000 outlets in the North West - and a Green Energy Expo scheduled for January 2012.

We’re thrilled to be part of this dynamic group of local business people and look forward to getting involved in future activities.

Wrexham Year of Culture 2011

2011 is an exciting year for the County of Wrexham. Not only is it hosting one of the world’s great festivals this summer but it is also celebrating its very own Year of Culture, with over 300 fabulous events taking place in its midst.

Described as “a cross between Glastonbury and the Edinburgh Festival”, it is hoped that Wrexham Year of Culture (WYOC) will attract thousands of visitors to the area and give local people the opportunity to enjoy a thrilling programme of events. From exhibitions and operatic performances to a Royal Wedding Street Party, there will be something for everyone. The Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod will take place from 30th July to 6th August at Lower Berse Farm, off Ruthin Road, Wrexham, and is expected to attract up to 160,000 visitors. As ever, there will be an eclectic mix of music, dance, visual arts, performances and activities to suit all tastes, and the famous Pink Pavilion will be the focal point for cultural ceremonies and competitions. What’s more, LDS Tourism Services has been chosen to distribute and display the official Eisteddfod brochure, so you will be able to pick up a copy from one of our many Visitor Info Points (VIPs) from March onwards.

We’re also delighted to be working with Wrexham County Borough Council once again. As usual, we will deliver a selection of tourism publicationson to specific drops their behalf  (please contact WCBC to be included) and we will, of course, distribute The Real Wrexham 2011 to hundreds of outlets throughout the region.

Real Food Fete - Hawarden

Autumn is here, which means it's the perfect time of year to sample seasonal, local produce.

Hawarden Estate Farm Shop regulary holds foodie events throughout the year but the Real Food Fetes are highlights of the year for me. As an eager shopper there, it is a great opportunity for me to meet the people behind the goods.

We recently enlisted some willing friends and had a brilliant day at the Farm Shop testing lots of treats, listening to some lovely banjo music, watching the donkey rides, posing with scarecrows and enjoying a Cheshire Farm Ice Cream on the way out. Although it was a very busy day, there was a buzzing atmosphere and a wonderful community feel. Needless to say, we left with several bags of goodies, several cartons of cider and big smiles on our faces!
